Soups and Seeds event

seedsnsoup

Today I attended the Soup and Seeds swap in Stirling, It’s run by a great organisation. Wee man R loved it as he got to have a go at making seeds bombs and identifying critters in containers, He also go to look at seed in magnifier and not to mention the Soup and Bread (I think he managed to demolish about 3 slices of the bread)  !

Making planters out of Milk Jugs

Wash out your milk jugs

image

Cut the jugs (on these jugs there is a line just under the handle so i used this as the guide but it might be worth measuring the top and bottom , the ‘top half’ need to be smaller then the ‘bottom half’ so it will sit nice in each otherimage

Remove the lid and make a hole

image

thread a piece of string throw the whole to create a capillary action

image

Place the lid with the string back on the bottle

Place your top and bottom together (inside each other) and you have created your planter with a reservoir to store/collect the water , you can now sit this on your windowsill. Fill it with compost and your seedlings and let the growing begin.

The growing season is upon us

So it’s the 2nd week of March which means for some people they can go out in the garden and start to sow seeds and plant things and expect result soon after, This is not the case for me as I live in bonny Scotland. We are are still getting snow flurries.

So this leaves the only option is Greenhouse growing or window sills.

This is what i do and here are a few pictures of my other ‘babies’
